Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing (TGHSON) Legacy Campaign

Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing Legacy Campaign

From the South Sound to the Inland Northwest, Washington communities benefit from the extraordinary contributions of MultiCare nurses every day. They play a critical role in shaping our patients’ experiences, representing the single largest specialty workforce among MultiCare employees.

But as the current generation nears retiring age and chronic diseases reach new heights across an aging population, the demand for quality, well-trained nurses has never been higher. It’s crucial for MultiCare to provide ongoing education that prepares our care teams to deliver the best and highest quality care.

A legacy more than 125 years in the making

Throughout the 20th century, the Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing (TGHSON) trained generations of nurses who provided excellent leadership and care. While the school is no longer open, MultiCare’s enduring commitment to education and supporting quality care teams lives on through the TGHSON Education Endowment Fund. The permanent fund was created by generous gifts from the alumnae and friends to provide scholarships to nurses of all levels for continuing education and professional leadership development.

2018 marked a historic year for the endowment, as it reached a total of $1 million in educational scholarships and grants for nurses. This incredible milestone was commemorated with the dedication of a bronze statue of a student nurse at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital, bridging yesterday with tomorrow.

The education endowment is a promise that access to nursing education and knowledge remains at the heart of our legacy. We invite you to join us by making a gift in support of better health and healing for our communities today and for generations to come.
